The burning hells were ruled by Three Brothers, the Prime Evils. They ruled with an iron fist and sought to spread hatred, terror and destruction to all living things. Leading the armies of Hell against the Angiris Council since the beginning of time for the right to rule creation itself. This war called the Eternal Conflict ended with the discovery of Sanctuary.

During the truce between the High Heavens and Burning Hells, Azmodan and Belial started the civil war that raged on for decades until the entire burning hells eventually turned on the Three Brothers and they fell. Severely weakened by the war they were exiled to the plane of sanctuary. This is known as the dark exile and started the turn of events that led their demise.

Diablo, Lord of Terror

Anyone who has seen the lord of Terror, has nothing left in his heart but fear. His domain holds the living nightmares that cross over into your dreams tormenting you until you have nothing left but your wish for death to end the horrors.

Baal, Lord of Destruction

His only goal is bring down all creation with the destruction of all that came into existence. His armies destroy everything in sight, as destruction is their only purpose. As the truest form of chaos, they oppose any and all order relentlessly until there is none left at all.

Mephisto, Lord of Hatred.

The hatred for all living things drives Mephisto and his legions to enact their vengeance on those whose heart is pure and untainted. His armies comprised of the undead and the corrupted souls that fell to his hatred. Fueled by the same thing that destroyed them, they follow Mephisto in his crusade to corrupt all that is pure.
