Seven ways to make things better

I’ve been using Vista for a good while now and while it has worked well for me overal, there were several annoyances that kept creeping up on me, most notably the seemingly random wait times that appear out of nowhere. After reading the mostly positive reviews on windows Seven, decided to give it a go. And I am very pleased with the results so far.

Most speeds test dont really show an improvement in speed, but to me it feels faster. I dont think the speeds of raw performance have improved a lot but the user interface and small operations seem quicker and feel lighter. The new taskbar felt weird at first but im getting used too it and it works okay. Not sure if its a real improvement but its not detrimental either. There are still lots of things to discover and learn about Seven but I can say it is better than vista.

Moving your documents folder in Vista

The default directory for all of your documents, music and pictures are located on your C: Drive. Keeping your data on your systemdrive makes it harder to reinstall your computer and you might run out of drive space, which can screw up your entire windows. Moving the directories for one users is fairly easy.

Moving your Picasa database.

I was complaining to a colleague of mine about software which doesnt allow you to move their data files from the system drive. Picasa2 by Google is one of those programs. Usually when I do a reinstall or screw up my system drive with one of my great ideas I tend to lose that data and I’m getting tired of that. He works in the unix/linux world a lot and said that they use symbolics links to move dirs around, he said that it might work for windows as well. And it did.
