Remote Desktop for Vista 64 Bit Home Premium

June 12th, 2009 posted in Tips and Tricks, Windows | 6 Comments »

I bought a new Personal Computer a little while ago, with that I purchased Vista Home Premium. Been running Xp professional for a while and figured home premium would be the equivalent to professional. Mostly it is but the one thing I used a lot was RDP and that was a no show.  But with all things digital, problems are solved faster than they are created.

I found a blog post on techsoar.com detailing how you could ‘enable’ remote desktop for Vista 64 Bit Home Premium. Ofcourse the instructions on their site didnt work for me, so i have the fiddle with it a little. Basically it comes down to:

  1. NET stop “Terminal Services”
  2. Rename the original file and copy the modified version into the System 32 Directory.
  3. NET start “Terminal Services”

And that’s it, you should be able to connect to your Desktop. I really can’t believe they took out Remote Desktop.
