Fortress Lottery = Fail?
The new update from Valve is generating a LOT of steam amongst the fans of the game. Some bugs creeped into the latest build and reported frame rate drops because of the new loadout, but the main reason for all the smack seems to be the new unlockable system. With every hour you play have a chance to find a unlockable item or at least thats what it supposed to do.
A lot of players reporting finding nothing after 8 hour gaming sessions or maybe one or two duplicate items, leaving them with a bitter taste in their mouths watching the few of the lucky ones running around with the huntsman or the ambassador. The steampowered forums are being flooded with complaints and whines that seems to be in equal footing with the World of Warcraft forums back in the day I was playing it.
While the servers arent plagued with a dozen players all running around in the same class, there are a lot of people going afk on the servers to get the unlocks while doing other stuff. Which is far worse than everyone being the same class, but achievement farming could’nt be easier, just create your own TF2 server and log into that. Go to sleep/work while you are earning your unlockables. There is a topic on steampowered that shows you how to create one to farm your precious unlockables.
The Valve team disclosed there will be more changes to come, like a trading system for items and even more unlockables similar to the newly introduced hats.
It seems that tf2 is turning into a role playing game. Unlockable and tradeable items have no place in a first person shooter, much less Team Fortress. tf2 is a disgrace, an embarrassment to Team Fortress Classic and Fortress Forever. Both of which hold true to the Team Fortress community.
Yeah, it’s a shame it’s going that way. Since they added unlockables the whole lottery is fairly pointless, besides the annoyance that you have to discard any item that you found.
The whole trading system will be moot as their is no reason to trade at all. Luckily it’s still is fun to play though.
