I haven’t frequented this place in a long time, mostly working on other stuffs that consume my time. I just keep this blog around for nostalgic reasons. There’s not much useful stuff here but there are some interesting tidbits, if somethings broken that you need just let me know and ill see if I have the time to fix it. No promises though.

The default logon screen for Seven is kinda… eh meh. Actually the whole new default theme is kinda lame. Luckily you can change it by abusing a registry setting for OEM suppliers. I’ve included a registry file you can import into your registry so you don’t have to enter it manually.
When you have imported the registry key, just copy an image file to C:\Windows\System32\Oobe\Info\Backgrounds and rename it to backgroundDefault.jpg (or any other extension your image file may have). There are some limitations to the image file, your best bet is to resize it your screen resolution and make sure the image size remains under 245K. After all this just log off and enjoy.

I’ve been using Vista for a good while now and while it has worked well for me overal, there were several annoyances that kept creeping up on me, most notably the seemingly random wait times that appear out of nowhere. After reading the mostly positive reviews on windows Seven, decided to give it a go. And I am very pleased with the results so far.
Most speeds test dont really show an improvement in speed, but to me it feels faster. I dont think the speeds of raw performance have improved a lot but the user interface and small operations seem quicker and feel lighter. The new taskbar felt weird at first but im getting used too it and it works okay. Not sure if its a real improvement but its not detrimental either. There are still lots of things to discover and learn about Seven but I can say it is better than vista.
